We headed for the hills of North Georgia and southern North Carolina for a few days after Christmas, 2001.  From our rental house in the Sky Valley resort, we went snow-tubing at Scaley Mountain, NC, drove up to Cherokee and Maggie Valley, NC, and caught the first day of skiing at Sky Valley.  It was the boys' first time ever on skis (actually, they went for the snowboards), and they had a blast.  Here are some pictures from the trip.

The night we arrived, we headed to Scaley Mountain which was set up to tow riders and inner tubes up the hill so that you could slide down.

Drew and John at the end of good rides.  to the top-right of John's picture, you can see the patch of exposed pine bark that caused me to wipe out spectacularly.  Hint:  don't wear your glasses when you go tubing.

On a drive through the Smokies, we stopped for lunch at the Dillsboro Smokehouse, and admired the local waterfall.
