The Love Bug, Round 1
Frank and I have long had a nostalgic interest in the old VW Bug convertibles.  On December 7, we flew down to South Florida with the intention of driving one back.  We had identified several likely candidates thanks to the web and some on-site visits by Uncle Don.  To my surprise, we chose the one that was cosmetically the worst, but it was the right choice because it had very little structural rust.  Problem is, it had been garaged for a number of years and didn't exactly make it home.  Many thanks to Don, Mom and Steve for their assistance.  Story to be continued...

Here's another look inside.  Bad shape, but it evokes such fond memories, and we can fix it!

Now the fun begins.  Saturday night, Frank  stands by the car as we set off to drive home.  Mom had loaded the car with food and blankets, in case we didn't make it all the way.  As it happened, we only made it about 40 miles.  Here is the car on the flatbed that took it back to Jupiter, and Mom and Steve laughing as they came to rescue us.  Later, we learned the problem: a tiny rust hole in the gas tank had drained the fuel. we had put in.  We ran out of gas!
The car went back to Mom&Steve's place, and we learned to our relief that Avix does one-way rentals.  A neighbor recommended BJ's wrench Connection, and the saga picks up there in February, 2002.
