On Father's Day 2001, we drove the boys to Camp Dixie in Clayton, Georgia for their third year of camping with longtime friends Jordan and Jason Roe.
Dixie is a small, rustic camp nestled among Mountain Laurel and Rhododendron, and reminds me of Green Cove  in NC, where I spent 6 happy summers.

After a pretty 2+ hour drive into the North Georgia mountains, we arrive at Camp Dixie.  Frank and the boys pose on the bridge by Lake Dixie

Greeted on arrival by camp leaders Miss Rhonda and Miss Ann

Drew meets his cabin counselor, Zack,  the boys greet longtime counselor Jason , and they load their gear into the pickup truck for transport to the cabins.

Jason, Jordan and Christy Roe arrive in the camp area.  Steve is behind handling the gear.

Jason shows bunkmates Drew and Jordan to Cabin One, which bears a map with key landmarks including Mt. Drew and Jordan Lake.

Bunkmates John and Jason prepare to cut loose in Cabin Three with counselor Steven.

Cabin view:  Each cabin has a lower level for the boys' effects and an upper level for sleeping. Notice a rare sight:  teenage boys making a bed!

All settled in, the campers get ready for a week of fun.

On the way home, Frank and Donna stopped at nearby Dillard House for a Sunday dinner feast.  Check out the view from our table!
Dillard House is a renowned family-style restaurant acclaimed by USA Today as one of the "50 Great Plates in America."
